Alper received his BSc in Biology from the Middle East Technical University, Turkey in 2005 where he did his final year project on re-generation of barley. Afterwards he moved to the Netherlands where he received his MSc degree in Molecular Cell Biology and Bioinformatics from the University of Amsterdam. During his master’s degree he worked on miRNAs at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and he studied mismatch repair pathway in zebrafish at the Hubrecht Institute. He started his PhD in 2007 at the University of Dundee where he worked on the RNA-binding protein GLD-1 and miRNAs in C. elegans. As a post-doc, he will be working on the long non-coding RNAs in C. elegans.
